## Visa Requirements & Eligibility

The Indian e-Visa process is a frequent target for scams due to its fully online nature.

  * **Fake e-Visa Websites:** Dozens of sites look identical to the official Indian government site but charge $100+ in hidden service fees. _Protection:_ Only apply on the official domain: **indianvisaonline.gov.in**.
  * **Phishing Emails:** Scammers send fake visa rejection emails demanding more money to "fix" the application. _Protection:_ Check your visa status directly on the official portal. The government will not demand additional payments via email.
  * **"Guaranteed" Expedited Visas:** Agents claiming they can get your visa approved in 1 hour for a large fee. _Protection:_ There is no expedited processing for Indian e-Visas. All applications follow the standard timeline.

## Application Tracking & Security

The Indian e-Visa system uses an Application ID rather than a traditional username and password.

  * **Tracking Your Application:** Upon starting an application, you will receive a temporary Application ID. Save this ID\! You will need it to resume a partially completed form or check your visa status.
  * **Lost Application ID:** If you lose your ID, you may have to start the application over. Ensure you type your email address correctly so the ID is emailed to you.
  * **Account Security Best Practices:** Do not share your Application ID or passport details with unofficial visa agents. Ensure the computer you use is secure.
