About Threads
Threads is a text-based social network launched by Meta in July 2023 as a competitor to Twitter/X. It is linked to Instagram — users sign in with their Instagram account and their Threads profile shares the same username and follower count. Within its first five days, Threads attracted over 100 million users, making it the fastest-growing app in history at the time of launch.
Threads supports posts up to 500 characters, photos, videos, and links. It is built on the ActivityPub open protocol, making it interoperable with federated networks like Mastodon. Available on iOS, Android, and at threads.net, Threads reached 300+ million monthly active users by early 2025.
